CVC 2008 Electrofishing Schedule

CVC 2008 Electrofishing Schedule This summer, the Credit Valley Conservation electrofishing crew will monitor 38 sites across the watershed. At many of the larger stations, we NEED volunteers to help complete the work. If possible, please volunteer to help with one or more of these larger sites listed below. The work is fun and rewarding and you will help us collect valuable data about the health of the river. Please email Heather Yates at stewardship@creditvalleycons.com or phone (905) 670-1615 (ext. 285) if you wish to help out with any of these dates or to get more information.

The Hen Wing Light Hendrickson

The Light Hendrickson fly has stood the test of time, simply because it does the job. This fly is different from the classic Catskill style that the Dette's and Darbie's made famous with the splayed duck wing feathers. This is a must have if you like the Hendrickson hatch in fast free stone rivers in Ontario, or anywhere for that matter. The other great treat of learning this style of fly is the many easy variations that you can tie just by using different colored dubbing or hackles. I hope this helps.

2/22/2005 - (TORONTO – February 21, 2005) The Regional Municipalities of Durham and York, the City of Pickering and Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA) have partnered to begin a drinking water source protection study to ensure safe drinking water supplies are protected in the Duffins Creek and Carruthers Creek watersheds.
Hendrickson Hatch

The arrival of the holiday season always makes me think of the New Year and spring. The very word ‘spring’ makes me think of the river. The river makes me think of opening day. Then I am completely lost to the here and now and have drifted to the first good hatch of the year, which I believe to be

William Joseph Coastal Chest Pack

William Joseph has people going Coastal and not without reason! I received a big box from William Joseph full of products to be reviewed. Many of my testers gravitated to this particular pack. I had to insist to many of them that it was not swag and they did have to give it back to me as it was being sent to The Trout Unlimited Silent Auction.

The Clear Creek Baileys Ford Chest Pack

The Clear Creek Baileys Ford Chest Pack is a true blend of what you find in the chest pack market today. Clear Creek has found, what I think is everything that you need in an all-round chest pack. The Baileys Ford Pack is made in a rich rust colour that does not offend. Both the front and side straps are easy to adjust. The front pockets are both wide and deep giving you more than adequate room for very large fly boxes for large fish situations but it is not too big to be cumbersome – it is very versatile.

Okay, so it won’t win any beauty contests, and the old school guys may look back as you pass and snicker. Hey, that is just fine because you won’t be looking back with this extreme Tulli super pack. I say super pack because not only could you fish out of this pack; you could also live out of this pack.

I am writing because one of the most valuable trout and salmon rivers on the north of Lake Superior is being threatened by a proposed hydro development. Anglers in the area need the help of concerned citizens to join our efforts to protect the pristine Steel. Below is an article describing the situation threatening the Steel.

TU/ CVC Work Days

Trout Unlimited and the Credit River Conservation Authority got together
the Sunday before the Trout season opener to do the annual clean up. All
present were happy to report that there was noticeably less garbage than
in years past (but more jeep parts)! I must say there is a true sense of
dedication with these groups of people, they take their free time and spend
it planning many ways to make the water and the time we spend on it more
    enjoyable and clean.

The Crescent - Crest 3000 vise is a simple old school style fly tying tool – a
strong and well-constructed product for its style. This vise is also somewhat
advanced with full rotation and a swivel neck for adequate fly manipulation.

Okay well, I won't make this legendary trout treat the be all and end all of fly-fishing, but it is a great one.

    Working With The CVC

            This
is conservation work in the trenches - where all of the funding ends.
There are all types of programs that the Credit Valley Conservation has
under its mandate so it should not be hard to for an individual to find
an area in which to volunteer.

Isonychia Emerger

Yes an Isonychia Emerger, I know you think that I could be wrong. I have looked long and hard asked tons of questions and have spent more time than I should admit in public looking at the water to say this out loud. Yes many Iso’s will make there way to a stick, log or rock to hatch but not all seem to have the plush platform to launch their new faze of life. This makes for a good opportunity for Brookies to have a quick easy meal.
